About Us

Inverness Building Front Entrance

The Pregnancy and Family Life Center was founded on April 21, 1983, in Inverness, Florida, by a group of individuals dedicated to the Pro-Life cause. Its original name was “The Pregnancy Crisis Center of Inverness,” and its original location was a storefront that consisted of two windowless rooms and a restroom. In 1985, the Center’s founders purchased a house behind the Crown Hotel in Inverness, thereby relocating it to its current address.

For the past 33 years, the mission of “The Center” has remained unchanged to provide valuable support to expectant mothers and their familiesin order to help women choose life for their unborn child. Over the years, our programs have expanded to include outreach and education programs for all Citrus County families in need.

In December 2013, in order to better serve the needs of those families living on the western side of Citrus County, we expanded our ministry and now offer our services Monday through Friday in Homosassa, at the Catholic Charities Community Outreach Center on Atlas Drive. In January 2015, thanks to the generosity of the Citrus County Knights of Columbus and the national Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Initiative Program, we received our first ultrasound machine, which is located at our Homosassa satellite location. Our goal is to provide ultrasounds for all abortion-vulnerable moms-to-be. Both our volunteer Medical Director – a recently retired MD – and our volunteer Nurse Manager have attended National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) training.

At both our Inverness location and our Homosassa location, we give free clothing to each client family 12 times a year; free baby wash, baby wipes, and diapers 12 times a year to each client family with age-appropriate children; and financial help once a year to qualified client families. At our Inverness location, we also give food to each client family 12 times a year, which we purchase from Feeding America Tampa Bay and from The Community Food Bank of Citrus County. Without donations from individuals, civic groups, and church congregations, we would not be able to provide these tangible goods to Citrus County families who come to us for help.

The most important services we provide include confidential counseling, mentoring, emotional support, and life skills training. Our goal is to give those who come to us the resources they need to become the best parents they can be, or the resources they need to choose adoption.
